  Board and Train your Dog

with Justine Dog Lady of Forest Grove

IN HOME BOARD AND TRAIN OREGON, NO Outside KENNELING

Working 60-hour weeks? Planning a vacation or traveling out-of-town?

48 hours from wild to walking in the feed store.

Justine, the dog lady  of Oregon,  a professional dog trainer can help you realize your dream of a well trained  family dog.

Family dogs can be a big project, and the most frustrating stage of training is the first several weeks while the dog is learning how to learn. As a professional dog trainer Justine can train your dog in her home, quickly for success for your family. Board and train is sometimes the best option for the busy professional who need help with their dog and cannot find the time a young dog requires.

Board and Train means the dog lives with Justine, her family and her dogs and cat  24 hours a day in her home, getting consistent round the clock training.

Day train dogs learn the same skills, but go home with you at night to live at your house. Day train dogs must be at Justine's house 2-3 three days a week for best results. Owners must follow up on the days lessons on weekends and at night.

Benefits and features of Justine's boarding program:

Two-Week Jump Start Camp

(I prefer the two week camp, I keep dogs for as short a time  as possible! I want them home practicing with you, their happy families ).

This is a great beginner course, especially geared to puppies or young adults.  The focus of this program is basic obedience and manners. It can also be used as a refresher for dogs that need a brush-up or a bit of fine tuning. Behaviors are taught with  distraction proofing.

Sit and Release

Down and Release

Attention (eye contact)

Greeting Manners (not jumping on people)

Loose Leash Walking

Waiting politely at doors and gates

Waiting politely for meals

to be kenneled quietly

 x pen trained

My family and I also work the dog how to behave nicely in the home (remain calm, refrain from counter surfing, garbage raiding, and jumping on furniture and guests).

We go to H Depot, farm store, Weds night market,  Agility barn, off leash parks, off leash and the beach if the weather is good. Off leash work started as soon as possible, I want you to run your dog off leash.

Three-Week Obedience Camp

The 3-week program is an intermediate-level program which focuses on practical, everyday obedience. This program provides a little bit of everything, including manners and socialization (dogs and people). All behaviors are taught with medium-level distraction proofing. This program offers the following:

Sit and Sit-Stay

Down and Down-Stay

Loose Leash Walking

Come from 25-feet plus

Attention (eye contact)

Greeting Manners (not jumping)

Waiting politely at doors and gates

Waiting politely for meals

Leash and training collar

 Socialization (dogs and people)

My family and I also work the dog how to behave nicely in the home (remain calm, refrain from counter surfing, garbage raiding, and jumping on furniture and guests).

Dog socialization outings are an important part of training. We go places and work on obedience lessons in public.

Board and train can be an excellent choice for people who don't have the time, interest, or ability to train their dog. Once the dog has completed the program, follow up lessons will be provided for the owner. For continued success, it is vital that the owner learn how to work with their dog so that they are able to maintain their dog's newfound training and skills. Fortunately, obedience practice can easily be incorporated into a daily routine.

The effectiveness of a completed program depends on various factors, which include the proper participation of the owner, continued practice with the dog, the dog's temperament, and the health of the dog.

Because Justine only accepts one dog at a time into the family board and train program, advance reservations are necessary. Please note that we require documentation of a full, current set of immunizations for each dog.  No unaltered male dogs at all.

  Riley and the potty bells

"Riley is our dream sheltie, but with no manners, we spoiled him rotten, he was not even house broke at 7 months. He stayed three weeks and we were all blown away when we picked him up. From wild boy to calm gentleman!

He rings the potty bells now to go out, does downs, stays, comes off leash and is so happy, Justine even started doing agility with him.  Riley was so happy at Justine's house.  He learned so much and is now a pleasure to live with. My friends are impressed.

Having him stay in Justine's house made a big difference, he came home with house manners."

"Justine is amazing, we left our counter surfing, slipper chewing, never came when called ten  month old dog with her for three weeks.  He had been to group puppy classes, but that didn't stick.

When we came back, Jackson came when he was called from half a football field away, did not touch anything but his toys, and he was so Happy!

I took him for a run in the mountains with and he stayed with me, checking in on me all of the time. Justine was an incredible deal. She works hard. Now I get to really enjoy my dog"

Jackson Off leash and happy in two weeks

Justine,
As Jackson romps and plays in the yard, we think of you! When he sits patiently at the door (and doesn’t bolt), we think of you. And when each command is followed without hesitation, we think of you. It’s been a little over a year since Jackson lived and trained with you. Your amazing talent in dog training made the absolute difference in living with a nightmare dog versus having a dream dog. We wanted to share this recent photo of Jackson. He is now two-years old, about 70 lbs., and is loving and friendly. We have no fear in taking him out and about. He loves people and is such a handsome fellow! We still work on leash behavior and continuously practice commands, particularly his excitement when people arrive. As you instructed, he is crate trained, and we keep an additional crate in the car when he travels. (He loves his car crate and doesn’t make a peep!) His crate is in the family room (not our bedroom! Yay!) and in fact, one night we forgot to close it and he never even left the crate.
I hope all is well with you. You are an amazing and talented woman! Thank you again for everything. Perhaps he can come and visit you sometime!

Play time at home and the daily run with our buddy Dori. Not all work time, romping toy time is good.

 Tug at the market.

Tugboat  (8 month lab Shepard mix) graduated from a positive only obedience class. His owner told me he had no manners, he was correct! Tug jumped on people and had the bad habit of playing too rough with his play partners. Two weeks of dog camp and he had good play manners, off leash recall and walked through the market ignoring people and not jumping or pulling. I am really happy to see him at 8 months, he would have been a huge problem at 15 months or older.

Letter from owner, sound familiar?

"Very very dominant, forward, bossy, high energy dog.  Can run and jump all day,  We enrolled in a puppy training class (clicker and positive reinforcement training) and did 8 weeks of one hour classes plus my training at home (he passed the final with flying colors but the commands did not relate to being a wonderpuppy at all) .  Working one on one with him works and keeps him motivated/focused but any outside activities and he loses focus.  Treats will pretty much get him to submit and he has really never refused food.  The class worked OK for the common commands (sit, lie down, stay, drop it, walking close, DOCK, and getting him to lie down on his bed or crate.  This training for him left me a little frustrated.

Socialization with people is one of the main issues.  He get so excited by anyone (especially if they show any type of excitement) he can’t handle it.  JUMPS up on everyone (huge problem with children).  Not aggressive (still open mouths and nips though).  Very hard to control him and he is getting bigger.  He is getting better with meeting and play with other dogs.  He is pushy towards other dogs jumping on them or chasing them, he thinks it’s a game.  Does not pick up when dogs do not want to play with him and has not got aggressive, but would with the wrong dog.  He has a frustrated bark (4X) and an alert bark (4X) and none of it is needed.

We are consistent with walks play and training.  And if he was more under control and predictable I would take him and do much more with him."

The owner was thrilled  and happy with the progress. Tug could do everything on his list, plus a few more things on mine!

Z at the beach with Seri , holding still for a picture.

Z was a wonderful problem fur child, 13 months old, 8 months of positive only dog classes and she acted like a wild dog.

Good News:   A very smart. workable Aussie, born to take orders, no dog or people issues, except jumping. Bossy with other dogs, rough play manners from doggie day care. Hard play drive, modest food drive.

Bad news!  No house manners, mouth on everything, no drop or leave it command, never off leash, and a car chaser on leash, no leash manners at all! Chewed three leashes in half! Toy destroyer! Counter surfer! Slipper stealer!

The  family was in complete despair and not convinced I could trainer her in 17 days, were they surprised!

Z had never had a single boundary explained in her life, not killing my cat was lesson one for her. The first time we went to the store to work, she had toys and balls all over the floor, yikes I was crawling around trying to get the toys back.

Z after 17 days:

Door stays, Drop it command, Leave it command, 100 foot recall, Off leash at the park with distance recall. She gets along great with my old temperamental cat. Went to the beach and she got a B/C grade, went overdrive on seagulls. She will be back for a week for that issue. The best improvement was she grew up and got calm and responsible, she loves to work and was doing dog demos in my classes about day 5.

The owners got a two hour lesson to learn to push her buttons and transfer the training. We went to the dog toy store, off leash running, and manners review for the car chasing.

Work time first, no jumping, then toy time.

"We had invested a lot of time and money in our border collie, she was so sweet, but so disobedient, she bolted out doors, ran  away and did not come when we called. We went on a trip and left her with Justine, when we came back she was so good. We went on a walk in a field off leash and she did not run away. She paid attention and we went on to do agility classes and have fun ."

" My husband got a dog then went to Iraq, I had to go to the hospital for several weeks. Justine saved the day,  the dog had boarded at a kennel and in three weeks  at Justine's she was house broken, pen trained, came when she was called. Her house manners were great and I could walk her on a leash. House board and trains with high quality trainers are hard to find in Oregon, I was lucky I found Justine"
